Local businesses, artists, politicians, and residents gathered at Rochdale Town Hall to celebrate the launch of Rochdale Creates, a brand new arts website aimed at supporting and promoting the borough’s vibrant creative sector.

The website, described as “by creatives, for creatives,” serves as a platform to showcase events, access employment, training, and funding opportunities, and stay informed through a comprehensive ‘What’s On’ guide for the arts in the Rochdale borough.

The creation of Rochdale Creates was made possible through funding from Arts Council England and the Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS), as part of Rochdale’s CDF2 Project.

The website was delivered by the culture and placemaking team at Rochdale Development Agency and is managed by the Rochdale-based organisation Sound Roots.

Councillor Sue Smith, portfolio holder for communities and co-operation, gave an impassioned speech highlighting the transformative power of the arts on Rochdale’s development.

She remarked: “Arts and culture are critical to the success of any place, and in Rochdale we are blessed with an abundance of artists, supportive organisations and spaces that allow the benefits of the arts to be realised.”

Mayor of Rochdale, Councillor Shakil Ahmed, also encouraged attendees to sign up to the new website, urging the community to help showcase Rochdale as a fantastic place to live, work, and visit.

Rochdale Creates is now live and open to artists, musicians, designers, and all creatives across the borough.
