A warm welcome to Real Rochdale
Hello and welcome back to the latest edition of Real Rochdale.
Our cover image this time is Healey Dell, one of our most-loved beauty
spots, which has recently benefitted from one of its main routes – Dell
Road – reopening after being closed to vehicles for 11 months.
This edition we commemorate two homegrown charities hitting
incredible milestones: Rochdale Connections Trust mark 25 years of
supporting people who find life difficult and the RKT Trust has donated
over £100,000 to other local charities and good causes.
Ken Wright, a war hero believed to be Rochdale’s only surviving D-Day veteran, celebrated turning
100 years old by being treated to a golf tournament in his honour, whilst the Pennines villages of
Littleborough, Milnrow and Newhey dressed their windows in pink to raise money for Cancer
Research UK.
Once again, Rochdale picked up multiple awards at the Royal Horticultural Society’s Britain in Bloom
competition with the Rochdale borough also winning big at the regional contest.
We have two wonderful Christmas-themed recipes to keep our bellies full this season. Enjoy The
Gallows’ bestseller of delicious braised brisket plus two sides including sprouts with bacon and
honey-glazed carrots with walnuts. For dessert, tuck into Natasha Brown’s warm chocolate chip
stollen with cream.
As always, thank you to our advertisers and contributors – and we hope you enjoy this issue.
