The Rochdale Music Stories Project was kicked off with the launch of a new book, by author Chris Connelly, which documents the rich history of Rochdale’s Cargo Studios from 1977 to 1985.
Chris spent twelve years researching the 360-page hard-back book which features over a thousand pictures.
There is an introduction from Cargo’s founder and studio engineer John Brierley and a foreword by Peter Hook, who recorded there with Joy Division and New Order and continued the legacy when he bought the premises and ran it as Suite 16 Studios.
Cargo Studios is where ground-breaking tracks from Joy Division The Fall, Gang of Four, The Chameleons, Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark, A Certain Ratio and many more were recorded.
