The North West Ukulele Project has donated 11 ukuleles to Rochdale Borough Libraries that are available for loan to adult customers.
The instruments were donated by the project after being contacted by Carole Hamer, who works at Langley Library.
Carole said: “The scheme is about making music accessible, not everyone has the chance to pick up an instrument, and this loan scheme means anyone can give it a try.”
Assistant librarian Carole first set up a beginner’s class at Langley in 2024 and it proved a success, with around 15 musicians now meeting up every Thursday for practice.
They named themselves the Bookuleles and have performed at several public events, including the Middleton Christmas lights switch on.
The ukulele is often seen as an ideal starter instrument, with just four strings, a light, easy-to-handle size, and in just one lesson you can learn a number of songs.
