Littleborough Rushbearing Festival

Littleborough Rushbearing Festival
Littleborough Rushbearing Festival

Rushbearing began in the 10th century when Pope Gregory decreed that rushes should be taken to church on Saints Day to cover the earth floor for warmth.

Littleborough Rushbearing was revived in 1991; the festival is a day of rushbearing joy with Morris sides and music galore processing from the King Bill to The Wheatsheaf and on to Hare Hill Park alongside the rushcart.
