A warm welcome to Real Rochdale
In this latest issue of Real Rochdale, we are celebrating several
exciting anniversaries, achievements, and ambitions.
A local mother and daughter have both received OBE honours
from the Queen, and we have some serious sporting talent to
watch out for in the future.
Independent furniture retailer Lovicks has been serving the
borough for an incredible 100 years, whilst Hope menswear has
been dressing the men of Rochdale for 60 years.
Katie Davies sat down with the new head coach of Rochdale
Hornets, Matt Calland, and the Managing Director of Crystal
Doors, Richard Hagan.
Appointed on a one-and-a-half-year deal, Matt told how he plans to guide Hornets to success and
improve the club’s performance next season, and Richard revealed his hopes to turn Rochdale into ‘a
hub for advanced manufacturing’ whilst maintaining eco-friendly and carbon neutral.
Michelle Kight visited the borough’s very first zero waste shop, and found out about the 80-year
history of the Rochdale RSPCA animal centre on Redcross Street.
Newly-elected councillor Elsie Wraighte told us about her big plans to help others from a similar
background as her, which I’m sure will resonate with many.
Finally, learn all about the history of the rush bearing tradition and take a walk through the historical
Ashworth Valley.
