Spring 2022Alpha Photography
Over twenty five years on Dale Street Milnrow
Andrew Huszar has always had a camera in his hands for as long as he can remember, so it’s little wonder that he set up his own business – Alpha Photography – in 1987.
Alpha began on Rochdale market where Andy, 57, stayed for nine years before moving his business to Dale Street in Milnrow. His cameras of preference are Fuji, Nikon and Canon – each with a specific purpose.
Over the last 35 years, he has photographed and filmed thousands of weddings, and sports from football and rugby matches to cricket, trials bikes and equestrian. These days, he’s also taken up photographing birds and is working on a DVD about steam trains.
In February 2022, Andy was named the official club videographer for Wakefield. He filmed and photographed Rochdale AFC games for about 10 years plus 23 seasons at Rochdale Hornets.
He also believes he has captured two unconfirmed world records on film – the fastest ever try in a rugby game between Oldham and Doncaster, and a try scored by Rochdale against Swinton when the ball bounced kindly for Rochdale to run onto straight from kick off.
Andy’s even produced a pet portrait for Lisa Stansfield – before she became famous – and filmed the first-ever rugby league match at the ‘new’ Wembley Stadium which opened in 2007, the English schools curtain riser.
“It was red hot, a fantastic atmosphere. I’m very privileged and lucky to have stood on the same turf as all the greats.”
He continued: “When I first started out, I did a couple of nights at a nightclub and Lisa came in one night with a group of people. I took loads of pics and she asked about pet portraits. I photographed her cat the next day. She went on to have her number one single, ‘All Around The World’ and no-one had a photo of her, but I did.”
Of his extensive career, he said: “It’s been good, very adventurous. It does have quiet moments but when I’ve thought about throwing the towel in, another door opens.
“Someone up there doesn’t want me to put my camera down yet!”
