Autumn 2023Editor's welcome
A warm welcome to Real Rochdale
Hello and welcome to the latest edition of Real Rochdale.
Our cover image this quarter is from the Tour of Britain, a 102-mile race which passed through Rochdale during its Greater Manchester stage on 3 September. A gallery of more race photos – taken from New Broad Lane – is on page 32.
In this edition, we welcome our new columnists, Gemma Broome and Suzanne Cooper. Gemma opened a new independent veterinary practice in Milnrow this summer, and shares her tips for helping dogs cope with noise phobias, including fireworks.
Complementary healthcare therapist Suzanne, of Lakeside Therapies, tells us more about staying well this autumn using principles of traditional Chinese medicine.
Michelle Kight delves more into the history of Hare Hill House, starting with the Newall family, on page 28, and also learns more about how Sergeant Dave Marshall became an engineer with the famed Red Arrows, on page 6.
This issue features lots of celebrations: Hanson Springs, one of the world’s largest independent spring manufacturers, turns 60; the Hollingworth Lake Rowing Club won four medals this summer; Petrus won a silver medal at Tatton Park, and two of our local fashion retailers were shortlisted for the prestigious Drapers Independent Awards.
David Hayden and Natasha Brown have once again created two wonderful recipes: a delicious garlic chilli chicken and gnocchi dish served with parmesan cream and tenderstem broccoli, followed by a delightfully zesty lemon drizzle cake.
As always, thank you to our advertisers and contributors – and we hope you enjoy this issue.
